Christians are being urged to pray for Ukraine amid fears of a Russian invasion.  More than 8 and a half thousand combat-ready US troops are on high alert to deploy at short notice, if Russia launches an attack. Ukraine Christian Ministries (UCM) director, Ella Perseedoss,  said prayers of comfort and economical help are what is needed.

“There are feelings of stability and fear within Ukraine, so we want to pray for economic stability within the country, as the people living there could be impacted so greatly by changes.

“We pray that God would provide care and support that is needed for them in that situation,” Perseedoss said.

UCM is an organisation that works and connects with churches directly in Ukraine, providing aid for citizens when needed.

The  Aid to Church in Need (ACN) are also calling on people to join in today with Pope Francis in a day of prayer for Ukraine.Echoing his call, Magda Kaczmarek, head of ACN projects in Ukraine, released a message, inviting the charity benefactors and friends to join in the prayer day.

She said: “ACN is very happy to join the appeal of Pope Francis to pray for Ukraine.“We should pray – please show your solidarity and, if you want, please fast with us.”

Her words come after Ukrainian Greek Catholic Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk also declared support for the prayer day.
