Over 3,200 Christians endorse statement dissociating from recent lunch hosted by PM Modi
Over 3,200 prominent individuals within the Christian community, including TMC MP Derek O'Brien, have supported a declaration distancing themselves from a luncheon organized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25. The statement highlights the escalating assaults and defamation by "members of the ruling regime" and the situation in Manipur. The Christian community, integral to the nation's freedom struggle and contributing significantly across various domains since independence, especially in education, healthcare, social, cultural, and political sectors, is acknowledged in the statement.
"Nevertheless, in recent years, particularly since 2014, Christians in India have been consistently targeted and defamed by members of the ruling regime nationwide," the statement asserts.
"The Christian populace, along with Christian educational institutions, has faced persistent persecution and harassment, witnessing the destruction of places of worship. They have been unjustly denied their basic rights as citizens and subjected to derogation and vilification," it further states.
