A Christian community in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh has been brutally attacked by a group of anti-evangelicals over the weekend.

Nine Christians were seriously injured in the attack, including three who were hospitalized in critical condition. On Saturday, November 6, a mob attacked 14 Christian families in Metapal village in Dantewada district. According to local Christians, four people, Joga, Lakhma, Magda and Suka, led the crowd. They went from house to house, attacking Metapal, demanding that the village be made a "Christian-free" village.
Terrorists brutally beat Christians in Metapal, including women and children, with fists, sticks and other objects. The attack left nine Christians with broken bones, broken joints and severe head injuries. Santhu, a teenager, was rushed to the hospital by four people, "said Pastor Sushil Kumar, who survived the attack. "He has multiple fractures in his legs and arms." Mogadi Madkami, Santhu Madkami and Hidma Podiami were admitted to the Dantewada District Hospital following the attack and their condition remains critical.
Police have registered a preliminary report (FIR No. 22/2021) against 15 members of the gang; But so far no one has been arrested.
"There is strong opposition in the village to people who practice Christianity," Pastor Kumar explained. "These Christians have been threatened several times before.
"This is not an isolated incident," said another Christian leader, who declined to be named. "Christians across the state are under intense pressure from religious extremist groups. We want the government to treat us fairly and impartially.
Across India, attacks on Christians and their places of worship are being reported with more intensity. Recently, a report by the United Christian Forum recorded more than 300 attacks on Christians in the first nine months of 2021.
